No movement, no divination 不动不占

The word "movement" points at the movement of the mind (heart). When nothing bothers one's mind, there is to be no divination.

When someone is bothered by something, his mind sends a strong message to the Universe, which is considered an "intelligent entity" in metaphysics. The Universe will send back a reply of guidance. A diviner is someone who can pick up the message and is versed in interpreting the message. It is, however, not fortune-telling.

A journalist asked me whether I have divined for the outcome of the lawsuit over Nina Wang's estate. As I am not interested in who will win the lawsuit, there is no movement in my mind. Therefore, I cannot do the divination. If either party requests me to do the divination, then the message is strong as there is movement of the mind of the enquirer. However, as I am an expert witness in this litigation, I cannot be the diviner because an expert witness is not supposed to do anything in favour of any party. To divine on behalf of someone is to ask the Universe to give guidance to the enquirer. Therefore, an expert witness cannot divine for any party.

It is a common mistake to view divination as disclosing the outcome. It is, in fact, not a game to satisfy one's curiosity. Divination is to ask for guidance from the Universe to obtain a favourable outcome.

I find that no matter who will win, they could use some part of the money to enhance a more scientific way of doing Feng Shui studies. Money is one of the main problems or even THE main problem causing the lack of Western way of academic/scientific studying of Feng Shui.

Or even better - they invest it before they make a decision at all!!!

When I see how much money is invested in Western sciences for doing studies like clinical study management and how many thousands of case studies they need to prove or disprove anything - then there is hardly any chance to make an objective judgement imo without any of such studies based on more objective foundations as used in Western Science.

Hu Antje,

Just wish to share my views.

I dont think money nor the lack of Western/scientific approach is the problem in Feng Shui studies.

There is an annual event held in Hong Kong University where a group academician come together to present their research paper work on Feng Shui in different respective fields. I believe this will grow in due time.

The only problem perhaps is the fragmentation of the different feng shui schools and their views on safe guarding their 'lineage secrets' that will impede the progress of feng shui. It is the mindsets that need to change, not the scientific approach.

Hi Chris,

Sorry for the misunderstanding. I didn´t mean that the scientific approach is missing within the Feng Shui studying scene. The event in Hong Kong is a good step on moving forward.

It´s just that compared to Western methods of studying and proving/disproving the efforts of Feng Shui research are imo too dependent to business. Every student/teacher has to finance himself and most people of course like to buy only products which are “ready” for further salaries.

In the West it´s also a matter of ethics not to sell things without having tested them with many many many test persons. While the test person gets extra care and insurance in case something has had negative side effects. But this all costs money…

I.e. USA, Japan and European Union have the "GCP - Good Clinical Practice" agreement for doing any studies following a guideline on how the studies have to be done (ethics, monitoring etc.)
http://www.emea.europa.eu/pdfs/human/ich/013595en.pdf

I just get actually myself some education on that while working for cancer diagnostics research, so I can see how much work this is, how many people are busy with one single study until something is allowed to get onto the free market. This is really amazing. But on the other side it´s exactly this enormous procedure what finally gives the trust for the quality of the resulting product.

I would see it as a big boost for gaining trust of more (potentially) clients (at least here in the West) when there would be more attempts for improving objectivity of any Metaphysical studies via such large studies with exact and more standardized documentation etc.

And with more trust for any offered methods/services, more clients will come, more new students…

Western scientist appeared to me quite open minded for new input/interdisciplinary studying. Few years ago I had a talk with a professor about how a study with using Ba Zi Suan Ming could be done, explaining the basics of Four Pillars. But this would have been impossible for a single person to go for, additionally it would have needed other requirements which would have cost money and plenty of time. And involving more people for doing such a study would have needed even more investment. Hence I do see a money issue.

I´m aware that Metaphysics is a most complex matter, but nevertheless I found a lot of things as parallel to Western findings – just with using different way to express/to describe them. Or things seem to complement each other. So it´s worth to do more research – not necessarily right things to bring onto the market, but which might help to give Western science as well as Metaphysics new inspiration for development.

Best wishes,
Antje

Hi Antje,

Thanks for sharing.

Just wish to seek clarification from you, so I wont misunderstand you. When you mentioned "..compared to the Western methods.."

Are you referring to the Eastern method compared to Western methods?

"I would see it as a big boost for gaining trust of more (potentially) clients (at least here in the West) when there would be more attempts for improving objectivity of any Metaphysical studies via such large studies with exact and more standardized documentation etc."I totally agree with you on the point above. To achieve that, imo will require a change in mindsets, both Westerners and Easterners alike, scientist and pseudo scientist too.

As you mentioned, many things from the East seem parallel to Western findings – just using different way to express/to describe them. Or things seem to complement each other – I agree with you too.

In the broad scope of things, all these events that are happening fit the interplaying order of Yin and Yang in our Universe. Everything revolves around this duality concept. At the right moment with the right condition and the intercourse of both Yin and Yang occurs, the birth of a new creation will take place.

Best regards,
Chris

Hi Chris,

>Are you referring to the Eastern method compared to Western methods?

Yes, but I didn´t want to generalize all Eastern methods. Traditional Chinese Medicine, i.e. Acupuncture and so on have made it already into Western science.

Several years ago they did study on the effect of acupuncture with an interesting result:

Here is the result of a study with 250,000 patients and 10,000 doctors involved (unfortunately the article is in German language only):

Maybe it might help a lot when everybody has enough respect for the other one.

Dear Joseph,

I have also seen other interpretations for that saying.

'No movement, no divination' means that if there are no moving lines in the I Ching reading we obtain, then there is no answer to the question.
It makes sense: without moving lines there is no future hexagram, so we may have some image about the current situation but we get no divination about how the situation will develop next.

***

Personally I have often done curiosity questions, asked about things that didn't touch my mind/heart.
And I never felt like it affected the readings negatively.
Rather on the contrary, when I ask about things that move my heart, then it is more difficult because I can't be impartial to the answer so easily, I will be more easily prejudiced..

***

I never felt attracted to these "guidance from the Universe" ideas, and how we should take the I Ching divination serious..
I have always taken I Ching playfully, and that's how it works for me.

I guess everyone has to figure out for himself how things work and then stick to it.
It doesn't matter what philosophy we find about it in old books. That only reflects the general thinking of those days, and it may or may not be useful for me today.
