Astrology versus Christianity

This is a very interesting story about Wei Qian Li 韋千里

韋千里

Cheung Wai Lok 張維樂 was born in a Christian family and baptized when he was 10 years old after attending only one lesson of Christianity.

In high school, his Chinese teacher introduced briefly divination while teaching the Yijing. Cheung found divination more interesting than going to church. He studied divination and was able to predict some future events and gave advice to his friends. He was known among his friends as a living fairy who could tell the future.

A professor who has taught Cheung's Chinese teacher immigrated to the United States of America after retirement. One day the professor sent his birth data to Cheung’s teacher and asked him to request a reading from the famous astrologer Wei Qian Li.

Wei was able to predict accurately what would happen in the days to come including the day when the professor would pass away.

In 1977, Cheung had a lot of problems including relationship troubles. He went to consult Wei Qian Li. Wei told him he would face a serious catastrophe at the age of 39. Cheung was worried.

Time flew fast and Cheung was then 40 but to his surprise, nothing serious happened during the entire year before he turned 40. Cheung went over the entire reading and found that everything before he was 36 was accurately predicted by Wei Qian Li but nothing predicted after 36 including the disaster at the age of 39 actually happened. He was puzzled.

Then he remembered that he started going to church regularly and gave up the practice of divination at the age of 36. He returned to God and was able to break away from the life controlled by the devil as predicted by the astrologer.

What do you think?

Hi Joseph,

From this passage where, I presume, your story came from, we can see that the writer thinks Chinese Astrology is just another form of religion run by the devil, competing with the Christianity God. If that is the case, then I think it is no more than a blind (a person who is ignorant of the Christian teaching) telling another blind (a person who is ignorant of Chinese Astrology) his view is better.

ΙΤ ΙS KNOW THAT WHEN YOU HAVE ACCORDS THAT ARE BAD IT IS BEST TO GO TO A MONASTERY OR TO TURN TO RELIGION IN ORDER TO AVOID IT....CHINESE ASTROLOGERS KNOW THAT SO IS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH CRISTIANITY.HE COULD HAVE BEEN IN A BUDDIST MONASTERY OR ANY MONASTERY OR HE COULD HAVE BEEN IN A MOUNTAIN ON HIS OWN..IT WOULD HAVE BEEN THE SAME...

Dear Joseph
Very interesting!
This shows that depending on the angle you look at things, you will have different opinions.
The truth assembles them all.

Astrology is like weather forecast. When there is a snow storm predicted, avoid going out and you will not be killed in a traffic accident. Likewise, astrology does not tell us when one will die, it only foretells the source of the danger that may lead to death. When we know that something bad is before us, like what Niko said, go to a place where we can find peace at heart. Hard selling a religion is a devil's act.

Dear Joseph,

The author of Autobiography of a Yogi , Paramahansa Yogananda, explains this topic well...

"Charlatans have brought the stellar science to its present state of disrepute. Astrology is too vast, both mathematically and philosophically to be rightly grasped except by men of profound understanding. If ignoramuses misread the heavens, and see there a scrawl instead of a script, that is to be expected in this imperfect world. One should not dismiss the wisdom of the ‘wise’.
All parts of creation are linked together and interchange their influences. The balanced rhythm of the universe is rooted in reciprocity. Man in his human aspect has to combat two sets of forces – first the tumults within his being, caused by the admixture of earth, water, fire, air and ethereal elements; second, the outer disintegrating powers of nature. So long as man struggles with his mortality, he is affected by the myriad mutations of heaven and earth.
Astrology is the study of man’s response to planetary stimuli. The stars have no conscious benevolence or animosity; they merely send forth positive and negative radiations. Of themselves, these do not help or harm humanity, but offer a lawful channel for the outward operation of cause-effect equilibriums which each man has set into motion in the past.
A child is born on the day and at that hour when the celestial rays are in mathematical harmony with his individual karma. His horoscope is a challenging portrait, revealing his unalterable past and its probable future results. But the natal chart can be rightly interpreted only by men of intuitive wisdom; these are few.
The message boldly blazoned across the heavens at the moment of birth is not meant to emphasize fate- the result of past good and evil- but to arouse man’s will to escape from his universal thralldom. What he has done, he can undo. None other than himself was the instigator of the causes of whatever effects are now prevalent in his life. He can overcome any limitation, because he created it by his own actions in the first place, and because he has spiritual resources which are not subject to planetary pressure.
Superstitious awe of astrology makes one an automaton, slavishly dependent on mechanical guidance. The wise man defeats his planets-which is to say, his past- by transferring his allegiance from the creation to the Creator. The more he realizes his unity with Spirit, the less he can be dominated by matter. The soul is ever-free; it is deathless because birthless. It cannot be regimented by stars.
Man is a soul, and has a body. When he properly places his sense of identity, he leaves behind all compulsive patterns. So long as he remains confused in his ordinary state of spiritual amnesia, he will know the subtle fetters of environmental law.
God is harmony; the devotee who attunes himself will never perform any action amiss. His activities will be correctly and naturally timed to accord with astrological law. After deep prayer and meditation he is in touch with his divine consciousness; there is no greater power than that inward protection."

Dear Joseph,

The conflict between Christianity and Astrology amazes me when it was three astrologers from the East who were the first to seek Jesus.
