Feng Shui studies consist of the study of Luan Tou 巒頭 and Li Qi 理氣. The former is the body while the latter is the application. 巒頭為體,理氣為用。
The study of mountain and water also consists of two parts - shape and form 形與勢.
Beginners have learned that mountains and waters can be classified according to the five elements or the nine stars. This is the study of shape 形學。The study of form is to visualize the movement of mountain and water. For water, this part is easier as we can actually see how the water runs. The "movement" of mountains can be appreciated by the inner eye. We have to see whether a mountain is healthy and vibrant. Is it ferrocious or benevolent? This is the part that takes proper Feng Shui training years of time and dedication. This is the part you have to acquire all by yourself. This is the part you cannot learn from your master. The study of form together with the study of shape is known as 形法.

Hi Joseph,
Then what to say about Holland, which is flat like a billiard?
Neither the outer nor the inner eye will see any mountains, much less how they are "moving".
The only "mountains" that stick out above sea level are the dikes that people have built to keep the rivers and canals from flooding.
So they always "move" along with the river.
As far as real mountains go.
I think a Google Earth relief map can give us a quick glance how the mountains run ("move") in a certain area.
Or when you are in an airplane, from the birds eye view, to see how the mountains run is about as easy as see how the rivers flow.
No training needed for it.
Danny
Dear Danny,
The "inner eye" has nothing to do with the eyes. It is feeling that includes the feeling by touch and the "heart". Even on perfectly flat land, we can still feel the dragon's pulse if it is a living dragon. Of course, there is a marked difference between standing on flat land and in the mountains.
Google Earth is a great software to allow us to travel in cyber space have a look at the real space. However, seeing a place on Google Earth and being there physically are still two entirely different things.
I remember I visited some famous scenic sites in Rio de Janeiro by helicopter and another time on foot. The feelings were different. The ancient Feng Shui masters did not have the previlege of such experience.

Dear Joseph,
You say that "We have to see whether a mountain is healthy and vibrant". If there is a tunnel with a road going through inside of the mountain, how would this affect the mountain? how would this affect the Earth Qi?
Naseeb
Dear Naseeb,
We have to consider a lot of things. The tunnel is a water dragon and it all depends on its relationship with the mountain dragon.
JY
Dear Joseph,
In this case, can we say that because of the tunnel, then the mountain is not healthy and vibrant? or is it more than that?
Regards,
Naseeb
Hi all,
A while ago I found a nice entertaining video showing a 4/Xun water star (old lady/wind alias Barbara, 84 years old)) flying around an 8/Gen mountain star (young man/mountain alias Spencer, 25 years old). Dirty dancing of the dragons so to speak...
In this case the Mountain as well as the Water appear physically quite healthy and vibrant although the Mountain looks significant stronger.
Their dresses might cause a little pain in the eyes for some... :-) as 8-4 in Xuang Kong Feng Shui can stand for emotional hurts or traumas.
