The Principle of Change

This is the principle we adopt in metaphysical studies. Everything is changing with time. Although time may be changing in cycles, there are cycles within cycles and even if a small cycle may be repeated, the enveloping larger cycle may be not and even if the larger cycle has come to the same point, a yet larger enveloping cycle may be not. Nothing can be repeated in identical conditions considering the span of life of human beings or even human civilization.

To require metaphysical theories to obey scientific discipline is simply fundamentally erred as repeatability is denied by the Principle of Change (or the Dao of Yi 易之道).

For example, when I cast coins to obtain a Gua to answer a certain question, even if someone else is casting the same kind of coins at the same location and time asking the same question, the result is unlikely the same. This is because the way I send my message cannot be the same as how others are doing. The human mind as an antenna to send and receive signals is very different from person to person.

Different realms are governed by different principles. Metaphysics has its own value even if a scientific minded person does not agree with this. It has always been my wish that metaphysics will gain the proper recognition for what it is by the scientific world.

Dear Joseph,

Science began with the study of weather and is still not 100% predictable.

It is said history repeats itself. As you said it may not be an identical cycle. Perhaps it is man's intervention that is the factor. Man can choose, he may be influenced, but ultimately it is his choice.

We look at Pearl Harbor, Dec. 7, 1942, could the same annual qi of the previous year, Xin Si, had an influence of those in power in Japan? Sept. 11, 2001, 59 years later, US is attacked again from the sky with metal and fire.

With conversations with many of your students there was concern in 2005 as it was 60 years since Hiroshima and Nagasaki, yet nothing happened. For all that is said about George Bush, thank God he did not make the same choice as Harry Truman.

Like you I hope the West will see Chinese metaphysics more than fortune telling or a new age fad but for the military strategic benefits that it offered the ancient Chinese generals such as Sun Tzu and Zhuge Liang.

How better prepared could magnanimous leaders of corporations, banks, the auto industry and government for this difficult time we are in if they had better understood the weather forecast of this Jia Shen decade?

Dear Joseph,

My mistake! The attack on Pearl Harbor was Dec. 7, 1941. The same, Xin Si year as the 9/11 attacks. History repeats itself in the 60 year cycle of Chinese metaphysics.
