Once there was a famous master who could tell people's future with great accuracy. He was then known as the living fairy 生神仙. One day, a man came for a reading. The living fairy said, "Tomorrow you will be crashed by a car and die."
The man went home and thought, "I will stay home tomorrow the whole day and remove his teeth day after tomorrow." Removing a person's teeth means to disprove a person's words and destroy his credibility.
The person lived in a house with a loft overlooking the living room. In the afternoon the next day, he felt drowsy and slept on the sofa. His young son was playing on the loft with his new toy car made of steel. Well, the car dropped from the loft, hit the man on his head and he died of the "car-crash".
Determined fate? What is your opinion? I will tell mine after reading yours.

Как говорят в России: от судьбы не уйдёшь.
I like to believe that life is like a journey, before coming into this world we are given a bag with a departing and the arrival port.
We are then free to decide how we will travel.
In this story, the master has opened a window looking out on this mans' route but it is the man who decides to die peacefully in his sleep instead of the chaos of an accident.
As for the young boy, in this bag is the weight of his father death. He will be free to drags it through his journey or picks it up to move on.
Dear Joseph,
It seems most people don't want to hear what a diviner has to say. The diviner is resented when he conveys what the man does not want to hear.
Most seem to be afraid of death yet it is guaranteed for us all. Why not prepare for it? Will it do any harm to leave each day as if it is our last?
Dear Joseph,
I am reminded of the story you told about Chen Tuan, found in an ebook on your website, http://astro-fengshui.com/astrology/four_pillars.html.
A diviner who knew how to give wise advice.

Dear Joseph
If you take a totally fatalistic view then there was nothing the man could do to avoid his fate the following day.
If you take the view that the living fairy should have advised the man how to avoid misfortune, then maybe the living fairy could have advised the man to be aware of his surroundings, and the man might have lived longer.
However, the man did not ask the living fairy if there was anything he could do to avoid a car crash.
The diviner can forewarn, and needs to choose the words used with care.
Looking forward to your comments.
Best Regards,
Foon
This story has been used by a lot of people who advocate that destiny is predetermined and that no matter what you do, you cannot change your fate.
Well, all I can say is that this is actually a fake story made up for that particular purpose.
Life charts repeat in cycles. It is almost certain there were people who lived 60 or 120 years ago have the same chart as someone who live today. However, in the old days, the average life span was much shorter than what it is today.
Joseph
Dear Joseph,
The diviner who would use such a story must be so full of self that I would question his/her communication with the universe.
